200th Pita Pit Opens in Quebec



We’re so excited to announce that we have opened the 200th Pita Pit in Canada! Pita Pit franchisee Michal Lalonde opened the 200th location in Trois Rivieres, QC. This will be the second Pita Pit in Quebec, and we are looking forward to opening many more.

Pita Pit in New Glasgow News

Pita Pit was featured in New Glasgow News. The article announces that the Pita Pit in New Glasgow will be accepting donations for Life Shelter, the local homeless shelter at their opening event.

“They’re probably a cause that could use some support this time of year,” said Elaine Howell, owner of the Pita Pit in New Glasgow.

They’re asking customers to bring in cans of soup or stew, as it’s what the shelter said would be most useful right now.

Pita Pit in The Globe and Mail

Pita Pit was featured in The Globe and Mail. 22-year-old Hailey Nault was the focus of the story on young entrepreneurism and franchising. Hailey found a mentor in Rob Anderson, who owned a Pita Pit close to her home and had partnered with other franchisees on their stores. Mr. Anderson agreed to put up half the fee, if she worked at his store for a year and learned every aspect of the business. That was November 2012 and a year later, he helped Ms. Nault find the pre-existing Pita Pit she took over, and continues to mentor her.

Gym teacher rolls to fight cancer

The Sault Star featured James Carson, a man with a story and a mission. The article details his campaign to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and how much money he is raising.  The idea was conceived in 2012 with plans to ride this summer after talking it over with his wife and children. His journey involves making the commitment towards others who are suffering from cancer. The article continues on to talk about the fundraiser and the cities he was skating through. Pita Pit Canada will supporting James Carson as he inline skates across Ontario during his Roll Across Ontario 2014 to support cancer research. As he rolls along he will be making stops at local Pita Pit’s along his journey. This event is to support the Canadian Cancer Society.

Founded in 1995 in Kingston, Ont., the QSR chain has expanded to 11 countries, including the U.S., New Zealand, India, South Korea and more. “We’ve come a long way since our first opening in Ontario almost 20 years ago. We’ve experienced outstanding growth in the past few years, and I am extremely excited about the opening of our 500th store worldwide,” said Nelson Lang, founder of Pita Pit. “Thanks to the passion and dedication of our customers, franchisees, corporate team and staff, we have been able to reach this remarkable milestone, and we look forward to further building on our success on a global scale in 2014 and beyond.”

Last year, 34 new Pita Pit locations were opened, and this year execs hope to add 40 more, with the goal of having 400 locations across Canada by 2018. The company has also launched an upgrade program to improve the look and functionality of existing restaurants.

Mike and Julie Marsh show off their new Pita PIt franchise in Val Caron. The couple says business has been booming since they opened in April.

Mike Marsh has gone from working in a mine to working in a pit.

That would be the above-ground version stocked with pitas and a virtually limitless array of fixings. 

"There are millions of options," says Marsh, while showing off his new Pita Pit franchise in Val Caron.

"You can have a chicken pita done completely different for months on end," adds wife Julie.

The two opened the valley location of the Kingston-based restaurant chain in April, and business has been steady since. "It's booming, non-stop action," says Mike.

The Val Caron resident spent 17 years working underground as a heavy equipment mechanic, and wanted to try something different. 

"We would take trips into the Pita Pit in downtown Sudbury, because we like the product and it's not just junk food," he says. "It's more freshness and healthy eating."

Pita Pit franchisee Edith Campbell was recently on Life Radio discussing the Miramichi Pita Pit opening. Edith discussed opening a Pita Pit alongside her family, Andy & Jennifer McFarlane and Dave mcFarlane. As a customer, Kim Heutinck was so impressed with Pita Pit that she left her job of almost 20 years with Mac's convenience stores to become a franchisee of the Canadian restaurant chain.

Heutinck and her husband, Andrew, opened a Pita Pit in Tillsonburg about a year ago and expanded their business with a second location that opened at 174 Culloden Road Unit 2 in Ingersoll on March 5.

The Ingersoll restaurant is managed by the Heutinck's son, Carl.

A healthy dining option is coming to Acton. Local man, Mark Feldhaus and his family are opening Pita Pit, healthy fast casual food chain founded in Kingston, the first week of March. Both Feldhaus and his wife were born and raised in the area and were searching for a healthy dining experience. That's when they decided to open a Pita Pit in Acton. Feldhaus said the decision was a no-brainer.
"We saw a huge demand for a healthy dining option. Even before we considered franchising, Pita Pit always stood out to us, we are very excited to bring the concept to Acton," Feldhaus said.
Pita Pit will offer customizable pitas that can be stuffed with a range of meats, veggies and topped with delicious sauces and a variety of cheeses.

KINGSTON, ON - Ontario-based franchise Pita Pit saw its most openings to date in 2013 and its poised to beat the number this year.

The Kingston, ON chain opened 34 Canadian units in 2013. "This year is going to be our busiest year ever in Pita Pit's history for Canada." Kevin Pressburger, vice-president of franchise development, told ARN. "We're on track to open at least 40."

Founded in 1995 by Nelson Lang and John Sotiriadis, there are about 200 Canadian units, with locations in nine provinces. Longer term goals include plans to have a total of 400 in Canada by the end of 2018.

"I think that's part of the problem - people just don't want to cook any more," explained Melanie Horton, who owns Orangeville's Pita Pit with husband Brad. "It's not they're addicted to Big Macs, they just really don't want to cook. It's hard when everything out there is not good for you."
